Sucker for a Succulent

Most people know i am a sucker for anything related to a succulent or cactus. I used them in our palm springs inspired courtyard on The Block and also in the dining room on Domestic Blitz. This year for christmas presents i'm setting out to make personalised terrarium's using succulents for my friends and family (so if your reading this, yes one is coming your way).

The possibilities are endless and by changing the glass vessels from either hanging options to a table centre piece even a recycled bottle you can really personalise the gift, i can't wait to put them all together. Ill be sure to post pictures of the finished products.

Through the window

Something i've been researching over the last couple of weeks is Windows... Windows themselves, different window materials, aluminium vs timber, curtains vs blinds, and decorative window films (shown above: last two images)

One of my favourite things i came across is SurfaceView. They have the most amazing roller blind and decorative window films which create the most dramatic impact in any space.

Something i've learnt along the way from my experience is... when using curtains the Positioning is very important. They should cover more of the wall around the window than just over the window, this not only allows for more natural light, but it also heightens the room and visually widens the window.

If i was doing a renovation at the moment i would defiantly use black aluminium windows. You can achieve a great look and they are also more durable and also vertically maintenance free in comparison to timber which when exposed to the elements obviously need a little more upkeep. If you like the look of black aluminium though but need to stick with timber to match an existing exterior you can always use black gloss paint to recreate a similar ascetic

Food for thought

Styling food is much more enjoyable than styling houses or fashion... because you get to eat it after, and sometimes even during. I loved doing this shoot because it was all super healthy food and the philosophy behind 'The Healthy Cook' is one i whole heartily agree with. The book is by Dan Churchill a friend of mine who also shared a reality TV experience on MasterChef. In a nutshell this shoot took 5 Days, 52 Recipes, 1 Broken Plate, 1 Broken Globe, 4 How-to Videos, 9,300+ photographs, 7 person production crew and i can't wait to see it finished in December!

South Melbourne // Level 4

Renovating a subpenthouse in South Melbourne was well out of my comfort zone. Give me a grungy beach house filled with character any day. But i must say i learnt a lot about new aesthetics and was able to create a complete new style vein for myself.

Being the first post for my IN/SYDE blog an introduction is necessary... this will be where to find all things post block, from what i'm working on now, to interiors, exteriors, fashion, styling and beyond. I'm also a very visual person, so i tell most of my stories through pictures. Enjoy!
